Why Are We Fasting?

As we get ready to start our 21-Day Challenge on Sunday, I was looking back through notes from fasts we have done in the past and found these notes that Matt gave to us at an all staff meeting. I wanted to share them with you to remind you of the purpose behind our fast. You may be questioning whether or not you should join us. Here are a few of the reasons we fast…

1. To cleanse the Heart-

There is a physical cleansing of the heart when you fast unhealthy foods; but more importantly, there is a spiritual cleansing. God is able to clean out things that we didn’t even know were clogging our hearts through a spiritual cleansing.

Psalms 51:1-2
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

2. To cleanse the Mind–

During the fast, we are asking God for wisdom and focus. Daniel received 10 times the wisdom of the other men. We are asking God for wisdom in the life decisions that we are making; wisdom in our relationships, our finances, our parenting…; asking God, what would you have me do? The Holy Spirit is the Great Counselor–the world cannot offer the right counsel.

3. Financial Provision–

Some of us need a financial miracle in our lives. Ask God for wisdom on how to handle your money.
#1 is to start tithing
#2 pray about how God wants you to manage your finances

If God has our hearts, our minds, and our wallets, He has everything!
