Today we start off our 3 Days of Prayer and Fasting. We are so excited to see all that God is going to do as we seek Him. Fasting can be a scary word. Fasting simply means to refrain from food for a spiritual purpose. The idea of giving up a comfort or even a need can be a little overwhelming at times. But when there is a purpose, a goal, or a benefit, it can be very rewarding.
There are different types of fast: water only, liquids only, Daniel’s fast where you eat only fruits and vegetables, or fasting luxuries like TV, facebook, and twitter.
The purpose behind our 3-Days of Prayer and Fasting as a church is to pray and believe for all He is going to do in 2011. We also need to pray individually and ask God how He wants us to give at our SUPERNATURAL Offering on November 21, 2010. During this fast I would encourage you to also seek God for wisdom on any personal issues you may be dealing with. Take these 3 days to be still and to hear from God.
What if we all fasted what would it do PHYSICALLY?
In a world where our stomach is our god, and gluttony is a stronghold in many people's lives; it helps to break the mindset that we have to give into every craving of our stomach. There is a physical healing that begins when we give our stomach a break from all the processed foods, fried foods, sugars and carbonated drinks that we regularly consume. For the first few days of a fast, many people feel bad physically with body aches and headaches because their body is detoxing, which means trying to get rid of all the garbage we put in. When we give our bodies a rest either with water only, liquids only, or eating fruits and vegetables only, we will feel energized, experience clear thinking, and drop a few pounds. Another reason to fast is because God wants us healthy so we can do all He has called us to do.
What if we all fasted what would it do SPIRITUALLY?
Fasting brings you into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Christ. When we empty ourselves from the things of the world, our hunger and thirst for the Lord becomes greater. We are able to see and experience who God is in our lives in a more powerful way.
Psalm 42:1-3, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
What would happen if we all gave up something and read our Bible more, prayed more, believed more, listen to God more – What would happen?
I don’t know but let’s all fast and find out….we will all come together on Wednesday, November 10th at 7pm for a night of Prayer, Worship and celebrating all that God has done and all He is going to do.
