Top Innovative Churches

In the January issue of Outreach Magazine they list the Top 25 Most Innovative Churches in the U.S. (You can see them here). It was great to see two of my friends on the list… Pastor Greg Surratt with Seacoast Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC (6) and Pastor Dino Rizzo with Healing Place Church, Baton Rouge, LA.(16). Pastor Dino and Pastor Greg are overseers for C3 Church and I have the privilege of serving with them on the board for the Association of Related Churches.

It’s awesome to see how many churches around the U.S. and world are passionate about communicating the life-changing message of Jesus in a relevant and innovative way. One thing I know about both of these churches is that their primary goal is not just to be innovative, but that God’s power would be displayed in and through their church. I believe churches today that combine creativity and innovation with the power of the Holy Spirit will change the world.

What I appreciate most about Pastor Greg is that he is a risk taker. When the city of Mt. Pleasant told his church that they couldn’t build a new worship center they stepped out with the multi-site idea and as a result they now have about 9 campuses all over South Carolina and beyond.

What I appreciate most about Pastor Dino is his servant’s heart. He has a passion for the poor and hurting like no other pastor that I know. He gives away more stuff to the community in a week than most churches do in a year. And when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Dino was on the front lines with PRC Compassion reaching out to the victims.

Hey Dino and Greg… keep up the great work! You are blazing a trail for the rest of us.

Two great churches with two great pastors. It’s awesome to be in relationship with them. Thanks for keeping our eyes set high and on the prize for which God has called us. You are doing an awesome job!

I think I know why people download Martha’s message more than yours. Martha says such an amazing amount in such a short time that people need to hear it again to get it all! LOL

  • Hey Matt,
I checked out your site, a friend of mine referred it to me.
I am the Assistant Dean at Southwestern Christian University Graduate School in OKC, OK.
We too are associated with ARC churches and Pastor Chris Hodges.
Just wanted to say I enjoy seeing what’s going on at C-3. Your blog is interesting. Like you, I too blog weekly and firmly believe it to be a great tool for communication in the 21st century.
    Keep up the good work!
    Coach John
