This weekend, we continued our sermon series FREE. Our key scripture for this series has been Galatians 5:1.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Last weekend, I spoke on the Fruit of Love and how all the other fruit of the spirit flows out of love, and this weekend, Matt continued speaking on the fruit of the spirit and focused on joy, peace, patience, and kindness, and how God wants us to flourish in the fruit of the spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such there is no law.”(NIV)
JOY IN SPITE OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCE
There’s a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness depends on happenings. When good things happen you are happy, when bad things happen we are sad or discouraged. But Joy that comes from the Holy Spirit is continuous. Right in the middle of the pain you can sense His joy.
PEACE AMIDST THE STORMS OF LIFE
Matthew 8:26 “He replied, you of little faith. Why are you so afraid? Then he got up and rebuked the wind and the rain and the sea was calm.“
Peace is not an absence of conflict. It’s peace in the middle of the conflicts. It’s peace in the middle of the storm.
One name is more powerful than any other name. It’s above any other name. The name of JESUS!
PATIENCE TO ENDURE NO MATTER WHAT THE OBSTACLES
Pastor Matt gave a great example of this by explaining that fruit that is picked too soon doesn’t taste good. It has to stay on the vine if it’s going to flourish and reach it’s full flavor. The same is true for us. If we stay on the vine (in His word, in His House), and if we don’t give up God is going to allow us to flourish. There is a work going on in the inside. Don’t give up!
Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
KINDNESS THAT LEADS TO FORGIVING OTHERS
Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”(NIV)
Romans 2:4, “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?”(NIV)
Romans 2:4, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”(NLT)
Proverbs 12:25, “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.”(NIV)
