Yesterday was a powerful Sunday at C3 Church! We continued our Five Star series based on the book of James. We also had Meet and Greet after both services and Matt and I got to meet so many of you which we love! A great friend of ours, Pastor Thomas Jonsson from Christian Center Church in Gothenburg, Sweden was here with us as well. As part of our 2011 Kingdom Builders, we are partnering with Pastor Thomas and Europe Advance to plant a church in Gothenburg and eventually more throughout Europe.
Matt’s sermon “How to Be Life Giving” was based on James 1:26-27. You can listen to the sermon here or watch it here. Also, I get asked all the time about the worship sets on Sundays, so here is this Sunday’s set list.
Always – Generation Unleashed
Holding Nothing Back – Jesus Culture’s Consumed
The Greatness of Our God – Hillsong’s A Beautiful Exchange
Second Chance – Hillsong’s In a Valley by the Sea
I’m Not Ashamed – Hillsong’s Saviour King
Our key scripture yesterday was James 1: 26-27 “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
Matt reminded us that being life-giving means to be generous; grace-filled; encouraging; always finding the good in others; always seeking to add value to other people…Life-giving people and life-giving churches are always looking for opportunities to bring life to the people around them.
A life-giving spirit starts in the heart, comes out of our mouth and then allows us to use our hands to serve others.
From the beginning of C3, we’ve had a desire and a vision to be a life-giving church. Nine years ago Matt and I met one of the most life-giving people we’ve ever known, Pastor Billy Hornsby. Pastor Billy was the founder and president of the ARC (Association of Related Churches) and was one of our C3 overseers. This past Thursday, Pastor Billy went to be with Jesus and spend eternity in Heaven. About a month ago, Pastor Billy spoke publicly for the last time, and even in the few short minutes of him speaking, you can see his life-giving spirit and the reason he has made an impact of on our family and our church for generations to come…
Pastor Billy’s memorial service will be tonight at Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Alabama at 7:30 EST. You can watch the live stream of the service at www.churchofthehighlands.com . Matt will be traveling to Birmingham today to be there for Pastor Billy’s service, so please be praying for him.
