We loved having our good friend Pastor Greg Surratt speak this weekend at C3 Church. Our church hosted an ARC round table for Pastors this past week. I love that our church not only reaches out to people in our community but we also pour into Pastors to keep them healthy so they can grow great churches for God’s Kingdom. Pastor Greg Surratt was here to lead the round table and speak to our church. Here is a summary of his sermon, and you can watch it here. You can click here to give your tithe and offering, just like at church!
I have decided to live by faith and not by sight
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV)
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV)
What does a faith journey looks like?
1. A faith journey sometimes begins with a difficult challenge
“Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” (Matthew 15:21-22 NIV)
2. A faith journey often gets worse before it gets better
“Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.””(Matthew 15:23-24 NIV)
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4 NIV)
3. A persistent faith is always rewarded by God
“The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.” (Matthew 15:25-28 NIV)
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV)
What does it mean to live by faith?
This year I am going to…
1. Believe God when I don’t see it
2. Obeying God when I don’t understand it
3. Give to God when I don’t have it
4. Persist with God when I don’t feel like it
5. Thank God before I receive it
6. Trust God even if I don’t get it
