Monday Morning Recap

What an amazing weekend    C3 Kidz had their Slammin Jammin Weekend, and Matt brought an amazing word.

The kids had a live band and inflatables in their service.  Pastor Matt was caught going down the slide in between services…

Pastor Matt also brought a great word on something that is not talked about a lot in church – SEX.   We are in week 2 of our FREE series and Galatians 5:1 tells us “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” We cannot find freedom in our circumstances, only in Jesus Christ can we find freedom.

We learned why, as Christians, we feel like there is a war going on in us. Galatians 5:16-18, “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.  For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.  They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”

Our sinful nature and the Spirit are in “conflict with each other”.  There is a battle going on.  There is a war going on between our flesh and the spirit.

Can you relate to that?  I can.  The things I want to do, I don’t do and the things I don’t want to do I do?  Ugh – I feel psycho!  🙂

We see all throughout scripture where great men and women of God struggled, but God still used them and He wants to use you!

Moses was a murderer. Hosea’s wife was a prostitute. Peter rebuked God. Noah got drunk and took off his clothes. Jonah was a racist. Jacob was a liar. Elijah burned out. Thomas doubted. Timothy had ulcers. And Jeremiah was a bullfrog!….(as Matt pointed out)  LOL!  He was actually depressed and suicidal.

We looked at the acts of the sinful nature in Galatians 5:19-21, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious; sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like.  I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Acts of the sinful nature can be broken down into 3 Categories…

1.  Sex – sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery.

2.  Religion – idolatry, and witchcraft

3.  Relationships – hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like.

So let’s talk about SEX. You might say “why is Pastor Matt talking about this in church? Is this really appropriate?”  YES! It’s talked about everywhere else from the enemy’s perspective and we need to reclaim Sex as a God-given blessing that is beautiful.

Sexual immorality – committing adultery.  God’s plan is for one man, one woman, one life, and for sex to be within the boundaries of marriage.  Within those boundaries you can be very creative.

Impurity – fornication.  Intercourse outside of marriage.

Debauchery – uncleanness. Out of control, pornography.

What does God have to say about Sex? Isn’t sex of the devil?  NO!  God created our bodies and He created sex.

Many people have a warped view of love and sex.  Some have warped views because of wrong information; some because of abuse; some because of mistakes that we’ve made… But God wants to set you free!

We have to realize that God created sex, and it is not dirty.  However, satan comes to steal kill and destroy and he will pervert our view of sex to destroy this beautiful gift God gave us to enjoy!  So if you have a distorted view of sex you need to pray and ask God to show you sex from His perspective, be honest and talk with somebody, and get the Word of God in you and start to change your thinking.

Romans 7:21-25, “So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.  What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!”(NIV)

Notice it says, “waging war against the law of my mind”

There is a battle for our mind. There is a battle for our thoughts.  There is a battle for the words that we are going to agree with.

GOD Has Thoughts and Words

SATAN Has Thoughts and Words

WE Have Thoughts and Words

When Satan comes and plants thoughts in our mind and we agree with them, then His power begins to work in us.  BUT when God gives us thoughts and words and we agree with them, we have power and VICTORY!  Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

Here are some examples of the lies satan will try to tell us and how we need to use God’s word to bring truth:

Satan’s Words – I will never amount to anything because I was sexually abused.

God’s Word – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” Jeremiah 29:11

Satan’s Words – I will always live in fear that someone will take advantage of me.

God’s Word – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Satan’s Words – These emotions are too overwhelming, and no one cares how I feel.

God’s Word – “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you”, I Peter 5:7

Satan’s Words – I need to keep this a secret so I don’t make other people upset.

God’s Word – “He will bring to light what is hidden in the darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.” I Corinthians 4:5

Satan’s Words – I have been hurt too much and will never trust anyone again.

God’s Word – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

Satan’s Words – God abandoned me when I needed Him the most.

God’s Word – “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” Isaiah 43:1-3
