What if I told you that you acted like an animal? Not sure what to think of that? (Bring up bad memories or your mom saying you live like a pig?) 🙂 Well, let me explain! Each of us was born with a unique personality that can line up with one (or more) of four personality types known as choleric, sanguine, melancholy and phlegmatic. (These are from the book, Wired that Way by Marita Littauer). Each of the personality types is matched with an animal…Choleric: Lion; Sanguine: Otter , Melancholy: Beaver and Phlegmatic: Golden Retriever.
A few years ago, Matt and I took the personality test and it was HUGE in helping us understand how each other is wired, why we do what we do and why we react the way we do to situations. It was so helpful that we had our kids and our staff take the test so that we knew better how to relate to one another. Knowing each other’s personalities allows us to extend grace toward one another and gives us a better idea of how to communicate.
As part of our Family Feud series, Matt and I did a team-teaching this weekend and included in their an explanation of the personalities. You can click here and read about the four personality types. To have healthy relationships, we have to understand one another.
Philippians 2:1-5, “Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”(NLT)
GOD WANTS US TO COMPLEMENT EACH OTHER NOT COMPETE.
GOD WANTS US TO CONSIDER EACH OTHER NOT COMPLAIN
GOD WANTS US TO CARE FOR EACH OTHER NOT TO BE CRUEL
After looking at the four types, what personality type are you? What about your spouse or closest relationships?
