It’s Not About Me

Psalm 51: 1-13

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.”

On the Daniel’s Fast, it is easy to get inward focused because we are being stretched and our stomach is growling! It is easy to say “God, I want you to speak to me and show me something new.” It can tend to be about us.

But verse 13 of Psalm 51 says “Then I will teach transgessors your way…” As God purifies us physically and spiritually, it is ultimately so that sinners will turn back to God and bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ. The purpose of the fast is not only to draw us closer to God, but to draw others around us who do not know Him into a relationship with Him as well.

Yesterday was half way, which means we only have five days left. You can do it! Press in and draw closer to God in the next few days.

Thanks for the encouragement Martha! I hear a small quiet voice in the background that I thought was the Holy Spirit but I now realize it is yours, Martha, reminding me to press on and continue in prayer. With a few exceptions, like Starbucks and Sushi, I know that this is a healthy way of living and we know how important it is for us to take care of our “temples”. Thanks for leading the way and reminding us WHO it is all about. You & Pastor Matt have taught me so much & a new way to discover God’s plan for each of us; in such a short period of time. Thank you!
