I Have Decided – Proverbs 7

Today’s post comes from Joshua Jurjevich, Youth Minister at C3.

“Don’t Cross The Street”

Today’s Reading: Proverbs 7

Today’s Key Scripture: Proverbs 7:8 NLT “He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman, strolling down the path by her house.”

This young man positioned himself to come into contact with this woman. In reality, he positioned himself for failure. We can position ourselves to overcome our temptation or we can position ourselves to give into the temptation far too easily. This young man lost the battle as soon as he made the decision to cross the street. He could have taken many different ways home to avoid this promiscuous woman, but he chose to take the path that would lead him to come into contact with her.

Each of us are fighting temptations daily. Our position is key to our failure or to our victory. For instance, if you are trying to lose weight, then don’t walk by your favorite donut shop. If you are trying to overcome the temptation of speaking out of anger, then let yourself cool down before you enter back into the conversation. If you are trying to overcome the battle for purity, then don’t watch that specific television program or allow yourself to surf the web late at night. Your position is key to your victory.

4 keys to positioning yourself for victory:

1. Get an accountability partner:

Pursue accountability. Accountability only works if you pursue it. Find someone that you can be honest and open with.

2. Be in prayer and the bible daily:

The bible says to pray in the Spirit on all occasions. You will be far more aware of the devils schemes when you are in a state of prayer throughout your day. It is also important to take the time to read the bible before you get your day going. This will be key to living a life of victory.

3. Join a connect group:

Even if we don’t realize it, what most of us need in life is a true friend. And if we are honest with ourselves, many of us don’t have that. In a connect group, you will be around like-minded people that we can do life with. Life-giving friendships is key to living a victorious life.

4. Serve on a ministry team:

Something happens when we step out of ourselves and serve someone else. The mountains we face seem to become smaller when we take our eyes off of ourselves. When you serve on a ministry team, you start to become a part of something that is bigger than yourself.

Prayer Focus: Lord, thank you that you have given me the strength to fight any temptation that I may face. Guard my heart, my eyes, and my mind. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to you. Help me to accomplish everything that you have destined me to do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
