Today’s post comes from Pastor Matt Fry.
GREAT THINGS START SMALL!
Welcome to day 30 of the 31 Day Proverbs Challenge. The challenge is to read Proverbs in 31 days. You can start any time, even if you are just reading this for the first time.
Anybody who knows me knows that I love coffee! One of my favorite drinks is called a doppio. It’s just 2 shots of espresso and it usually comes in a very small cup. I joke with people that our church is built on the power of the Holy Spirit and the power of coffee! Don’t underestimate the espresso because it is powerful and it will get you going!
Today’s Reading: Proverbs 30
Today’s Key Scripture: Proverbs 30: 24-29, “There are four things on earth that are small but unusually wise: 25 Ants—they aren’t strong, but they store up food all summer. 26 Hyraxes—they aren’t powerful, but they make their homes among the rocks. 27 Locusts—they have no king, but they march in formation. 28 Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings’ palaces.”
In today’s scripture, we see that even the ants, hyraxes, locusts and the lizards work hard and do whatever it takes. All four are small and are easily overlooked but because they are wise, they can do powerful things. The ants store up food all summer, the hyraxes (similar to a large rat) make their homes in rocks, locusts march in formation even though there is no king, and the lizards are small, but they can go into places like King’s palaces.
This is a principle we see throughout scripture that great things always start out small.
Zechariah 4:10, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…”
Great things may start with an idea or a thought; a conversation or a relationship. If you look in the Bible, God would often choose people that may have felt small or insignificant to make a big difference.
A Shepherd boy named David. David was a teenage boy with no trained military experience, yet God used him to defeat Goliath and the Philistine army.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They were three teenage boys, but they refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s idol. God used them to change a nation.
Gideon. Gideon’s army was small and outnumbered, but God gave them a plan and they defeated the enemy.
Jesus from Nazareth. The Bible says, “Can any good thing come from Nazareth?” God chose Jesus of Nazareth to save the world.
The Church. We see in the book of Acts that the church started with 120 people in a prayer meeting. Today there are now 2.2 billion professing Christians out of about 7 billion people around the world.
You! You also started small…. very small! But God knit you in your mother’s womb. You were created for Greatness!
1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young! But you can be an example in speech, life, love, faith and purity.”
So today allow God’s power and His wisdom to fill you to overflowing and walk with confidence in Him! The next time the devil tries to make you feel small or inadequate remember that you have resurrection power and supernatural wisdom inside of you! You can make a difference!
Prayer Focus: Heavenly Father, Thank you for making me unique and one of a kind. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made with a purpose to my life. Today fill me with your supernatural wisdom and power as I live out your plan for me! Open my eyes to those in need around me and give me the privilege to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those that need hope. In Jesus Name, Amen!
