Ok this is day 2 of reading scripture to hear from God.
Today I want to encourage you to read Luke 6:39-49 and see what stands out to you?
New Living Translation (NLT)
39 Then Jesus gave the following illustration: “Can one blind person lead another? Won’t they both fall into a ditch? 40 Students[a] are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.
41 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye[b] when you have a log in your own? 42 How can you think of saying, ‘Friend,[c] let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
The Tree and Its Fruit
43 “A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 44 A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thorn bushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. 45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
Building on a Solid Foundation
46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
S – What scripture stood out to you? For me it was verses 43-45
O – what observations do you see in the verses you choose.
If a tree is good it produces good fruit, if it is bad it produces bad fruit. A tree is known by what it produces.
It’s the same for people. If a person has a good heart good will come from them, but if a person has a bad heart then evil will come from them.
What is in your heart is identified by what you say.
A – How can you apply what you have observed?
I need to notice what I am say because that tells me what is in my heart. If I don’t like the words that I am speaking then I need to change my heart. Only the Holy Spirit can transform my heart so I need to be humble and allow the Holy Spirit to show me what He wants to change and follow Him in obedience.
P – Spend some time praying this scripture into your life.
A – Adoration, what is something you can praise God for.
God I praise you that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You are my Rock that I can build my life on. I praise You and worship You and Magnify You, You are worthy to be praised.
C – What is some sin the Holy Spirit has pointed out that you need to confess?
God I confess to you that many times my words are not life-giving. And it is nobody else fault but mine. No matter what somebody says to me or what they do to me ever gives me the right to be nasty with my words. My words say more about me and my heart than anything else. Fill me with all of you today so Your Words flow out of me because I know they will be good words.
T – Spend some time thanking God for either what He has shown you or people or something He has done for you.
God I thank you that you can change my heart and good-life giving words can flow out of me. I thank you for people and resources you have put in my life to pour into me. I thank you that you never give up on me and today is going to be a day of victory!!
S – Now spend some time praying for people and then yourself.
God today I lift up my family before you, I ask that you would fill their heart with good things and that they would follow you in obedience.
And I ask you, Holy Spirit, to fill me today and that my words would be a reflection of You in my life. Help me to hear your voice so clearly today and that when you speak I would not hesitate but follow You in complete obedience. I love you! Amen!
I would love to hear what verses you choose and what God is speaking to you so if you don’t mind share with me on the comments section of the blog.
