Don’t Just Examine the Bread…

Today’s blog is a continuation from yesterday’s “I Choose to Rejoice”.  If you haven’t read that, click here before reading… This is another take-away from Joshua 9.

Scripture: Joshua 9:14 “So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord.”

Observation: The Israelites saw what was happening in the natural (the bread was molded), but could not see beyond to the supernatural (the disception in the Gibeonites’ hearts).  They quickly made a treaty with them because they assumed by the look of the bread that they had come from a long distance and they neglected to consult God, who is all-knowing.

Application: Even in decisions that seem small or that have obvious answers, we still need to consult the Lord.

Proverbs 21:12 “All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

Have you ever made a decision to do something, but then before you do, there is a catch in your spirit?  An uncertainty?  That is the Holy Spirit trying to slow you down to look beyond the obvious and see that there is more going on then what is on the surface.  Consult Him – Seek Him.

Prayer: God, I praise you that you are all-knowing.  Help me to remember in every decision, even the ones that seem obvious, to talk to you about them first and to seek your will in all areas of my life.
