Today’s post comes from Sarah Buss, Children’s Minister at C3 Church.
On this eighth day of our challenge we are reading through Psalms 57-63.
Today’s Key Scripture: Psalm 62:5-8
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
What shakes you? What is that one area in your life that you avoid because dealing with it only brings fear and insecurity? It could be anything from your finances, to your health, to your kids, to your career. The list is endless and unique for each of us. However, the common tie for these things is that they shake us. They fill us with emotions of anxiety, dread and doubt. The enemy loves to use these things in our life to reduce our faith and cause us to question God’s goodness in our lives. He loves to shake us up.
When David and I were first married, we were shaken in numerous ways. In just two brief years of marriage we encountered everything from loneliness due to a move to Virginia, lack of financial security through David’s job loss, and the death of our first child. To say we were shaken would be a gross understatement. Everything that we could rely on was yanked from under us. It was in that moment that we had a decision to make. We could either allow the circumstances to not only shake us, but also completely take our footing altogether until we were completely overcome by our situation. Or we could choose to follow Psalm 62:5-8 and acknowledge that even though we might not understand what we were experiencing, we could trust in a Heavenly Father who promises, in these verses, to give us rest, hope and security.
I am grateful to report that we chose to trust God. Was it difficult? Yes! Nothing has been more challenging in our entire lives. However, in choosing to believe in God’s provision and love for us, even when our emotions did not point in that direction, we were supernaturally given greater peace, greater faith, and a more intimate relationship with Him. Verse 8 is true. We can trust Him at all times, pouring out our hearts to Him even when we do not understand because He is our refuge
Prayer Focus: Identify those areas in your life that Satan would love to use to shake you. Give them over to God, and determine to trust Him with them no matter what. Declare the truths of these verses over your life-that God truly is our rock, our fortress, and our refuge.
