Day 7 – Lee Chatham
Have you ever felt like you are battling the same things, always going around the same mountain? Maybe there’s a conversation with your children that you are always having. Maybe there’s an issue between you and your spouse and every time it’s brought up, it always turns into a yelling match. You may also feel like you’re going around the same mountain of addiction or self mutilation, wanting to stop but never having the will power to tell your flesh no. I have good news, it can all change today!
“When we were at Mount Sinai, the Lord our God said to us, ‘You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on. Go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the neighboring regions—the Jordan Valley, the hill country, the western foothills, the Negev, and the coastal plain. Go to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, and all the way to the great Euphrates River’.” Deuteronomy 1:6-7
Two months after leaving Egypt, the Israelites arrived at a very significant place, Mount Sinai. This is where God revealed himself, the Ten Commandments were given, the plans for the tabernacle were laid out, and the construction of the tabernacle was completed. The Israelites stayed at Mount Sinai for two years after leaving Egypt.
You might be asking ‘what value does this have’? There are things in our lives that we have been dealing with for what seems like years. We have been asking God to change or take away whatever it is, yet that problem always rears its ugly head right about the time we think we have it conquered. God is calling you to break camp and advance into the hill country just like he told the Israelites. God himself is saying, “You have stayed at this mountain long enough”. See, God called the Israelites to break camp and leave the mountain because He knew their future in the Promised Land, and He knows your future too. Breaking Camp will look different for all of us. It may be to start speaking life into a dying relationship; it may be confessing that deep sin you haven’t told anyone about. Whatever it is, God is calling you to it so He can see you through it.
Let’s make a commitment to God today to acknowledge that we have stayed at this mountain long enough and it is time to Break Camp and advance into the places God is calling us.
