13 Day Devotional – Day 6

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever’

“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-11

This passage has always been one that stuck in my mind every time it came to giving. Especially the idea that, ‘God Loves A Cheerful Giver’, God wants us to be cheerful in our heart. As God does a work in our heart we are ready and willing to give, cheerfully, because we know that as we give, God will in turn, bless and give to us.

We all know that we do not give to get, but this is a principal that God clearly states, ‘as we sow, so we will reap’ (Galatians 6:7). This month you have a chance to sow “seed”, to give to the Lord something that will grow into something beautiful for Him. That sowing takes “faith”, that kind of sowing takes “sacrifice”, but that kind of sowing will not go unnoticed by God.

As you fast today, think about how you can sow, think about what to sow, and think about how that “seed” will in-turn bless so many others. The decision is between you and the Lord, but what He gives you, no matter the amount, give cheerfully and with expectation of how He will transform that to change lives.
